Clarinetist Ib Hausmann loves to build bridges between the world of classical and modern music as both a classical and jazz musician and an improviser, composer and theatrical performer.
As a soloist Ib has performed throughout the worlds leading concert venues for many years working with prestigious orchestras such as the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra and the Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
His most important musical influences and inspirations came from his collaborations with pianist Menahem Pressler and the composer György Kurtág.
As a highly sort after chamber musician Ib collaborated with Alexander Lonquich, Aleksandar Madžar, Herbert Schuch, Frank Gutschmidt, the Jazz pianist Michael Wollny.
Ib also regularly performs with Trio di Parma and string quartets such as the Hagen, Casals, Vogler, Bennewitz and Auryn-Quartet.
He received several international awards such as the "Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik" for his recording of the clarinet sonatas of Max Reger and a CD of works by Berthold Goldschmidt. In 2002, EMI released a live recording including the Quintet by Sergei Prokofiev (also featuring Tabea Zimmermann, Julia Fischer, Lars Vogt and others).
For Deutsche Grammophon he recorded the Double Concerto for Piano and Clarinet by Gerhard Frommel and the CD Terezin, Music from Theresienstadt (with Anne Sofie von Otter and Christian Gerhaher), which was nominated for a Grammy in 2008.
In 2013 Ib recorded a Trio CD with Peter Burns and Frank Gutschmidt featuring the music of Erwin Walther which was released by NEOS records.
His first compositions were published in 1996, including "Ohnung" for solo clarinet and in 2010 he composed the music for the fairy tale "Der Spielmann" by Selma Lagerlöff.
He supports the outreach and learning project www.laternamusica.de enhusiastically as a musician, director and writer in Europe and Colombia.
